Post-Basic BSc Nursing is a broad-based education aimed to build upon the skills and competencies acquired at the diploma in nursing level. It is specifically directed to the upgrading of critical thinking skills, competencies, and standards required for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in the National Health Policy.
In post-basic BSc Nursing (also referred to as PBBSc), candidates are provided a holistic mixture of classroom lectures and hands-on training. Admission to the course is usually done on the basis of candidates’ performance in the written entrance exam conducted at the University/Institute level. However, some institutions also provide direct admission to candidates on the basis of merit.
The main objectives of the program are as follows:
1. Provide the opportunity to a large segment of in-service nurses to upgrade their knowledge and skills to respond to the changing health needs of society.

Education Qualification

The objective of Post Basic BSc Nursing
The main objective of starting the Post Basic BSc Nursing courses is that Nurses assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives at a basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services. It will also help them make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, and community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in clinical/public health settings.
Who is Eligible for Post Basic BSc Nursing Courses?
In-service Nurses i.e. Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives (RNRM) have 10+2 with three years of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with a minimum of two years of experience (after registration as RNRM) in the profession.
